The World According to Gip
I live by my highest values.
What Drives YOU?

You might think you know, but do you really know what drives your behavior?
As a Values~Driven Coach, I help people unveil their highest values so they can serve at their peak.
They appreciate what drives them forward and organize their lives around them. My wife calls them her “highest powers.”
In the certification process with Dr. John Demartini to become a Values Trainer, I took people through 13 questions that ultimately reveal their highest values.
And we start with one very simple, yet curious question…
But, before I share that with you, let me share a brief story.
For the first 28 years of my career, I assumed a persona. I just graduated from college and relocated to Dallas. Before I did, I met with a family friend who suggested I go by a more professional name.
“‘Gip’ is just a bit too cutesy for business,” she said. If you must know Gip is short for Gillespie and would often get mispronounced as Kip, or Jip, or my favorite: Gib.
“Why not go by your proper first name: Louis?”
I liked it. New city. New beginnings. New friends. Plus my college roommate’s name was Louis and he was a stud. Maybe I could be stud-worthy, too.
And so it was. But, after a while, things got messy.
You see, my college roommate relocated to Dallas too, but he refused to call me Louis. He was Louis and I was Gip. Some started to know me as Gip by night and Louis by day.
I played this game for a very long time. But I was also developing a split personality.
I was Louis at work, but Gip at church. Louis at the gym, but Gip at the marina. If somebody from work met me at the marina, I had no idea how to introduce myself!
It wasn’t until I started my coaching business that I began to know my true self. I was Gip at my core no matter what anyone called me. Bye-bye, Louis.
And how did I know myself? I discovered my highest values.
It changed, well, everything…how I viewed the world, how I showed up, how I spoke, how I engage with people…everything!
And it all started by answering the first of 13 questions. Are you ready?
Question #1: How do you fill your space?
What surrounds you is the beginning of your true nature…the core of what drives you. Look around your workspace. What do you hold close? What’s always near? You’ll begin to see their significance shortly.
Until next time, my friends…
Keep driving forward.
